Who is Rebecca?

Her name is Rebecca Pefanco Gallego, born in the Philippines to a farmer and school teacher dad and a stay

at home Mom. Though she was born in a poor family, her father placed the emphasis on
how important education is to a person. With little money they have, her dad worked hard
to send all three children to school.

By the time Rebecca was to enter college, her father managed to find a couple in the U.S
to sponsor her tuition in school. He found their name in a Christian magazine he once had
and the friendship between the couple and her father grew because of their strong beliefs
that education is very important.

Rebecca took a career in the Nursing profession upon entering college.Although being
sponsored by the American couple, Rebecca worked in college to pay for her school needs.
She sometimes work in the early hours of the morning, then attend her class, and then back
to work till late at night.

With a hectic college schedule, she finally graduated in Nursing. Her nursing career took
to Vietnam as a missionary nurse, spent three years in U.S. as a nurse and finally
meeting her American sponsors of her college tuition. Then finally worked for three years
in Canada until love pulled her back home to the Philippines and marry Johnny.

Rebecca stayed in the Philippines and raised her three children. She continued to work as
nurse in a hospital. But she never stopped her job in being a nurse in the hospital. Her
love and compassion to help people in need kept going on and on wherever she goes. She made
sure her home was always open to poor people who needed food for the day, or maybe a
neighbor asking to check his or her blood pressure, or someone knocking on her door asking
what to do having diabetes. Rebecca would have open arms to share and give what she can.

She passed on to her three children the importance of education. She said, "money will fade
but when you acquire knowledge in education it will take you to greater heights in life".

In 1996, Rebecca's husband suffered stroke and year after year left her husband weak. Yet
she never complained and continued giving excellent care to her dear husband, making sure
he would have the best care she could give and encouraged him each step of the way.

But in August 2005 Rebecca's strength gradually decreased, everyone thought she had a
stroke. She managed to smile, she continued to encourage her three children. Finally, the
truth came, Rebecca has a brain tumor.

Doctors suggested surgery but the chances of recovery was unclear. Rebecca did have
surgery because she wanted to live and continue with her mission, "to care for others".
In September 2005, she underwent surgery to remove the fluid in her brain. It was
successful. She had a month's rest and in November 2005 she finally had the major brain
tumor removal surgery.

Hope started to live in the hearts of Rebecca's family and dear friends. But, in that
Sunday afternoon of November 13, 2005 at 3:00 P.M news came that she started bleeding
in her tracheostomy. Rebecca died.

Rebecca left a dear husband, three children, two son-in-laws, one daughter-in-law and five
grandchildren. She left a total hospital bill of 1.6 million philippine pesos and because
of generous support and contributions of people who knew her "heart and passion", the
balance has now decreased to 400,000.00 Philippine Pesos as of this year 2008.

We continue to raise funds to pay Rebecca's hospital bill and if you would like to donate,
we made a store in Amazon.com called "Rebecca's Jar Store". For every purchase you make on
this store, we are donating 100% of the commission to pay directly her hospital bill at Manila Adventist Medical Center in Philippines. There will be an update on the blog on how much was earned and our goal is to donate at least half 400,000.00 Philippine Pesos or that is half of $8000.00, to her hospital bill. Click "Rebecca's Jar Store" to enter.

Much appreciation is in our hearts for your kind generosity. Rebecca's Jar is full of love,
compassion, caring, joy, happiness, empathy. Her desire is always to be of help to anyone who is in need. May your jar in life be filled with this too. Thank you so much for your help.

Sincerely,

Rebecca's Daughter (
Valerie)
